The Humanist Chaplaincy at USC was founded by Bart Campolo in 2014 to offer spiritual encouragement, pastoral care, supportive fellowship and meaningful service opportunities to secular students, faculty, and staff at the University of Southern California (USC), and to inspire and encourage like-minded people around the world. It is the seventh humanist university chaplaincy in the United States, joining those at Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Rutgers, American, and Stanford.

The Humanist Chaplaincy at USC operates as a chapter of the American Humanist Association under the supervision of its own advisory board. While the university’s Office of Religious Life provides campus access and loads of encouragement, USC itself provides no salary or financial support to Bart Campolo. On the contrary, like Hillel International, the Caruso Catholic Center and other religious organizations serving the campus, the Humanist Chaplaincy at USC is entirely reliant on private donations.
